Looking ahead
It feels like we’ve barely had time to catch our breath following a bustling month of Gathering celebrations for the Society here in Scotland, and across the world. I hope that wherever you are, you were able to share a dram, celebrate your membership and toast 40 years of good times with the SMWS.
But there’s always something new coming members’ way, and this month we pay a visit to the French distillery that produces Armorik whisky – which will be arriving in single cask form to the SMWS warehouse pretty soon.
We have the pleasure of hearing from long-term Society ambassador and Tasting Panel chair Olaf Meier about his first visit to a new whisky world, with the SMWS team, in China. And we meet new Glasgow Members’ Room manager Johnny Love, filling the shoes of Calum Lawson who recently moved over to join the Spirits Team in their constant quest to track down and manage our stocks of fabulous whisky. Be sure to say hi to Johnny if you’re fortunate enough to live near our wonderful Bath Street Members’ Room in the heart of Glasgow.
Finally, our maverick tastings specialist Duncan has been on the case again, this time finding out how floating in a blacked-out pool of bath salts can heighten your senses when it comes to tasting a dram afterwards. It’s all worth a try, at least once! You never know what’s coming next at the Society…
Cheers,
