The only drop
When our founder Pip Hills tasted his first sip of whisky straight from the cask he knew he was onto something incredible. That first drop was the start of our malt maverick movement. This year we’re celebrating that moment with our donation to the Distillers One of One auction
The Distillers One of One auction is a charity event run in partnership with Sotheby’s. The industry auction raises funds to help disadvantaged young people in Scotland by offering one-of-a-kind rare Scotch whisky from around the industry. This year’s auction will take place on Thursday, 5 October at Hopetoun House in Edinburgh and the auction will be open to members and non-members of The Scotch Malt Whisky Society.
Our entry ‘The Only Drop’ is a creative collaboration between our expert Spirits Team and specially selected artistic partners. The goal? To produce one beautiful and truly unique bottling filled with exceptional liquid. The whisky we selected for this one-of-a-kind bottle is a 33-year-old from Distillery 24. In deference to this extremely limited liquid, we have adopted a stripped back, minimalist and sustainable approach to the packaging.
The design has been imagined by Chris Wilson at Glasgow-based agency STCKMN and produced by bespoke sustainable luxury packaging specialists James Cropper. It includes a distinctive circular white paper pulp sculpture made from highly sustainable materials that incorporates shavings of wood from the 33-year-old casks that held the whisky.

In keeping with the Society’s spirit of sharing, we’ve included a mini bottle along with the full 70cl, encouraging this whisky to be opened and savoured.
‘The Only Drop’ has been a collaboration of artists, a reflection of how the Society began, from that single epiphany moment to the global whisky club we are today.
