WAYS TO ENGAGE
YOUR SOCIAL SOCIETY
Now that you’re a member, how can you engage with the Society? Find out where our in-person events are, give us a follow on social media and delve into the world of Unfiltered. Here’s social media & community manager Mads Schmoll with the details
IN PERSON WITH THE SOCIETY
Not everyone is fortunate enough to live close to one of our Members’ Rooms, but wherever you are, you can always find the Society on the road holding tastings across the UK, EU and internationally. Each tasting is as unique as the whisky offered. You might try the latest Outturn in a partner bar, enjoy Society whisky and ice cream, or even take a trip on a whisky tram. Our teams all love to meet members old and new, so you’ll also find us pouring drams at festivals around the world. It’s always worth bringing your membership card along, as we often have special member-only drams.
Head to the events page on your local branch’s website to find out what’s on where you are.
OUR WHISKY COMMUNITY
There’s always a Society buzz on our social media pages, where you can keep updated on news, upcoming Outturns, member stories and the latest from Unfiltered. You’ll find us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. It’s a great place to get to know the SMWS community – especially during live virtual tastings, which we host throughout the year. Wherever you’re based, follow your own country’s page on its social media channels. We love to share your photos and your stories with our global community, so remember to tag us.

THE SOUND OF WHISKY STORYTELLING
Our podcast Whisky Talk will keep you entertained during your dog walks, commutes or late-night dramming. We kicked things off with our founder Pip Hills cracking open a bottle of Cask 1.1 and talking about the early days of the Society. We have had plenty more whisky events like that one, many of which have been captured for those a bit further away from our Members’ Rooms.
If you’re a fan of Scotland’s incredible creative scene, our special series Whisky Talk: Malts and Music is for you. BBC Scotland DJ and writer Vic Galloway talks to personalities from Scotland’s cultural life as they enjoy a Society tasting.
Each guest chooses a song to match each dram in the tasting. Hear from the likes of Sam Heughan, Ian Rankin, Val McDermid, Justin Currie from Del Amitri and Stina Tweeddale of Honeyblood about their whisky journey, their inspiration and plenty more whisky-fuelled chat.
You can find all episodes of Whisky Talk and Whisky Talk: Malts and Music on Spotify, Google Podcasts, Apple Podcasts, Stitcher, TuneIn and many other podcasting platforms.
WATCH WHISKY TV
If you prefer your whisky storytelling on the big(ger) screen, our YouTube channel SMWS Silverscreen offers a visual feast of distillery visits, first tastes of new releases and more, with explainers from how to read our bottle labels to how to pair whisky and snacks. Make sure you check out founder Pip Hills as he recounts his single cask epiphany back at the Aberdeenshire farm where it all took place over 40 years ago.
