First whisky memory
I worked in various bars as a student so I was always aware of the standard blends that were in the optics, but never appreciated the vast choice of malts available. I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to do a course to give me some basic knowledge that I remember being fascinated with at the time. And now at the SMWS there is a whole new level of learning to be done.
Favourite whisky-drinking music
Elvis Presley, Dolly Parton or Queen – I just love a song that tells you a story at the same time.
Best box set
It’s a draw between Downton Abbey and Only Fools and Horses. I can happily watch them both repeatedly and still laugh. Nothing beats a look from Maggie Smith to say everything she wants to say without the need to open her mouth!
Fantasy whisky tasting companions
Judi Dench – I think she’d have some great stories to tell and doesn’t take herself too seriously. I’ve been told that I look like a young version of her, not sure how accurate that is but I’m taking it as a compliment!
Guilty pleasure
Drinking cold beers on the beach as the sun beats down.
Dream destination
I would love to experience everything Las Vegas has to offer. Whenever I hear people talking about their holiday there I get real travel envy.
Strangest food
Curry for breakfast! I was in Sri Lanka a few years ago and it was served for every single meal. I embraced and enjoyed it at the time but as soon as I was back in the UK I realised my tastebuds had changed in a short space of time. For weeks after I was back home everything I ate was completely bland until they readjusted.
Favourite bar Anywhere with some live music and a great atmosphere.
If you were a flavour profile, what would you be, and why?
Young & Spritely – I must have really liked being 24 because I’ve never felt any older than I did then. No matter how many years go by I’m happy to stay there!
