Whisky journeys
It’s amazing how often the anniversaries come around. We celebrated the Society’s 40th birthday last year, and in May some of you may have had the pleasure of attending an event with our ambassador Olaf Meier on his 20th anniversary tasting tour around Scotland.
This month marks the silver anniversary of our London Members’ Room at 19 Greville Street, with a special bottle release and events planned to mark 25 years of the Society’s presence in the Big Smoke coming up in September.
We hear from the current team at Greville Street, as well as delving into its history with some members who have been loyal regulars since it first opened its doors.
Whisky can provide the impetus for all kinds of journeys in life, and we also catch up with a member who has found time in his retirement to combine his passion for whisky with writing a biography about an underappreciated whisky pioneer and entrepreneur, Joe Hobbs.
We find out about a new Society partner bar in Mexico City, the culmination of a journey for owner Luis Lopez Morton that started with a visit to Glenkinchie distillery at the age of 18.
And we continue our globetrotting by checking in on the growing whisky scene in South Africa with Marc Pendlebury, who runs the Society’s branch in Johannesburg.
Dive into that and much more.
Cheers,
