ABOVE: An international pour for IWD
An eventful month
There’s a lot going on this March, with two different IWD celebrations in our calendar.
The first is International Women’s Day on 8 March, and we’re catching up with ambassador Lucy Connor from The Vaults to find out more about that and how she’s taking a meditative approach to her tastings.
The other W, of course, is for Whisky – and International Whisky Day on 27 March. The event has been happening since 2008 to celebrate both the late whisky writer Michael Jackson and our favourite drink internationally. With that in mind, Duncan Gorman has cast his eye over the Society’s roster of international bottlings – now up to an impressive 51 distilleries by my count.
We’re also in the month of St Patrick’s Day – so you can expect a fantastic Irish whiskey from the Society in time for celebrations on 17 March. Having tasted our palo cortado sherry-cask matured ‘Heresy’ bottling Caramel cascade, I can vouch for how good it is to raise a glass for St Paddy.
And if you like to dig into a bit of whisky history while you’re enjoying your dram, check out the new book from Society member Justine Hazlehurst about the rise – and disastrous fall – of the Pattison Brothers’ whisky business at the turn of last century. Justine has penned a piece all about it in our digital edition – and you may also get to read it in our all-new printed magazine landing this month, depending on where you are.
Wherever you may be and however you read our stories, I hope you enjoy what we’re serving up.
Cheers,
