Transport yourself
Welcome to October’s Unfiltered, as we start to ‘coorie in’ to autumn here in Scotland.
Travel remains a challenge at this time but we hope to transport you, wherever you might be reading this, with a tour of the fantastic Holyrood distillery, which I was fortunate enough to visit recently. It’s a real treat to see this historic building in the heart of Edinburgh come back to life as a distillery, which has been designed with the visitor experience in mind and with diverse flavour characteristics from the stills. Dive in – and find out more about the Society’s incredible ‘win a cask’ competition – on p6.
Elsewhere we hear from a new voice at the Society, Moa Nilsson, on why we should be doing more to introduce younger drinkers to the joys of single malt whisky. Dr Andy Forrester has his knowledge about how location can influence a whisky’s maturation. And we explore the evolution of the SMWS bottle label since that first bottling of Cask 1.1 came out in 1983.
We have all that and much, much more in your regularly monthly issue of Unfiltered. Pour yourself a dram, find a peaceful spot, and enjoy. Slàinte,
